It’s a showcase of the incredible training and apprenticeship opportunities for young people in the capital and beyond, so the LHAA were delighted to be part of Skills London 2015.
The two-day event was attended by over 45,000 young people, school leavers and parents, and gave us the chance to what the LHAA does for our apprentices and their future careers.
Skills London is all about showing young people that there are a myriad of opportunities for them after GCSEs, something we at the LHAA are incredibly passionate about. We know that academia isn’t the right direction for a lot of students, but they are not fully aware of the benefits that they can enjoy while training as an apprentice.
So at Skills London our team got busy talking to everyone about what pursuing an apprenticeship in hairdressing and barbering could mean for your life. Not only do you get the chance to train in a career that could take you to many different, exciting places but also you’ll get the chance to earn while you learn
With student finances now a very big problem for young people, our apprenticeships are perfect for those who couldn’t afford to spend thousands on university fees. Instead, you’ll train with us to the highest standard and, because you are on an apprenticeship programme, we will support you into employment straight away with one of our salon partners. It’s an incredible opportunity, and we were delighted by the number of interested youngsters who we were able to chat with at Skills London.
It was also great to see our LHAA student Michael Papley from the Camden Academy be part of the BBC News coverage of the event as he demonstrated his skills to an impressed audience.
“We spoke with young people across London and the bordering counties about what they could achieve with LHAA,” says Francine Luker, managing director of LHAA. “We work with 325 salons across Hertfordshire, Middlesex, London and Essex. At present we’ve got 75 vacancies for immediate employment and got more than 120 people signed up to attend our open days and to join the apprenticeship programmes starting in January. We were so delighted by the success of the event that we signed up for Skills London 2016 immediately.”
