Why we're celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2017
Every March we’re proud to be a part of National Apprenticeship Week as we celebrate the incredible impact that apprenticeships are having on the lives of young people.
For us, the proof is in the feedback we get from our apprentices and the partner salons who employ them. It’s our mission to give our stylists the very best training possible, as they work to earn while they learn in top salons. Unlike students who continue in traditional education, apprentices are secure in the knowledge they already have a job before they start our courses. The ability to combine a real job with invaluable training is one of the main reasons that we believe so strongly in the power of apprenticeships.
The government has been doing research into the quality of apprenticeships and has released some figures that confirm what a great option they are. They found that 89% of apprentices were satisfied with their apprenticeship, and 92% of apprentices in work felt their apprenticeship had a positive impact on their career.
From our perspective, this backs up our experience with apprentices. Our goal is to empower aspiring stylists and barbers with skills that will last them a lifetime and give them the chance to work all over the world. We pick salon partners who we know are committed to supporting and encouraging new hairdressers and we’re proud of the results we achieve together.
Employer satisfaction with apprenticeships was another key piece of the Government’s research. They found that 9 out of 10 apprenticeship employers hoping to achieve business benefits from taking part in the scheme concluded that they did deliver. That’s not all because 75% of the employers reported that it had helped their business to improve the quality of their product or service.
“Every day we see what a life-changing move an apprenticeship can be,” says LHAA director Trevor Luker. “The true power of the apprenticeship scheme is in the collaboration between the apprentice, our salon partner and the LHAA. We want to provide excellent training and access to the best salons, so our industry continues to grow thanks to new talent. National Apprenticeship Week is a wonderful chance to celebrate this collaboration and to look forward to watching the great stylists of the future evolve.”
