SUPPORT

What support do I get at LHAA?
At the LHAA our dedicated tutors offer a wide range of support to help you to achieve your goals.

LHAA Resources
The LHAA have industry-standard equipment and high tech modern facilities. All learners have access to IT facilities with internet access as well as using an eportfolio for recordingyour own record of learning. Tutors will help you find information, use IT applications or improve your research and study skills.

Tutors
All learners have access to a named tutor while studying at the academy. Tutors will be a source of guidance and support and will help you set and achieve your learning targets and goals.

Teaching
We are extremely proud of our teaching staff with extensive industry experience in hairdressing.  All the LHAA tutors are Grade 1 or Grade 2 Ofsted graded. They are on hand to help you learn everything you need to know to be prepared for the world of work. Many of our team are still working in the industry and offer the latest skills and methods to ensure that you get the most relevant training in hairdressing.

Keeping all students safe
The LHAA always puts students’ wellbeing and safety first. Staff are recruited appropriately and given full training to ensure that you are well cared for while at the academy.  We operate a zero tolerance drug policy and do not accept inappropriate behaviour of any kind.

Functional Skills
It is very important that you have the skills and abilities to be able to clearly express what you learn through good written and verbal English and maths and when using a computer.  Everyone is given the opportunity in their Functional Skills sessions to develop this range of vital qualities. This will give you the skills to research and present information well and at a level expected of you at the academy and when you move on to further education or employment.  This will also help you to complete your coursework and pass the assignment part of your work.  You may also be offered extra support where needed, for example, additional support is available for students with dyslexia.

Additional Learning Support (ALS)
Are you worried that difficulties in English and maths are preventing you from doing well on your course?  Do you have concerns about your progress in developing study skills?  The Learning Support Team provides help to all students who need support to progress in their studies.

STUDENT SUPPORT

Personal Tutors
At induction every student at the LHAA will be assigned a tutor who will be the first point of contact for you. Your tutor’s role is to support you with your progression and achievement on the programme. Your tutor will provide you with their LHAA mobile phone number and e-mail address so that you can access their support remotely.

Your tutor will arrange scheduled meetings  with you to review your progress and to support you with forward action planning. Your personal tutor can also offer advice about a range of support you can access, e.g. relating to your career and progression opportunities, personal welfare issues and financial issues.
