WHAT IS A HAIRDRESSING OR BARBERING TRAINEESHIP?
A Traineeship is an education and training programme with work experience that is focused on giving young people the skills and experience that employers are looking for. At its core are work preparation training, English and maths and a work experience placement within a salon.
At the LHAA we are offering a 12 week Traineeship programme that is specifically designed to lead to an Apprenticeship in hairdressing or barbering.
What are the benefits of doing an LHAA Traineeship?
At the LHAA you will have the opportunity to gain qualifications and work experience that is relevant to the hairdressing industry. You will receive training in essential work preparation skills, English and maths, customer service, hairdressing skills as well as a work placement in a salon.
The Traineeship will give you:

• The opportunity to build your CV and get vital experience in the
hairdressing industry and to gain some hairdressing skills to help
you decide if it is the right career choice for you.
• Improved English and maths skills which will boost your chances
of getting a job, as well as improving your long term prospects
and earning potential over your lifetime.
• The opportunity to progress on to an Apprenticeship in
Hairdressing at the LHAA.
• Work preparation training which ensures you have the skills and
confidence needed for an Apprenticeship or other job.
• The opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications in
maths, English, customer service, workskills and hairdressing
Who is the Traineeship suitable for?
Traineeships are an ideal opportunity for young people who are motivated to get a job but who lack the skills and experience that employers are looking for. The Traineeship is also suitable for young people that want to establish if hairdressing is the right career path for them as well as gaining qualifications.
Who can apply?
You will be eligible for this course if you are:
• Unemployed and have little work experience
• Aged 19 up to 24 and have not yet achieved a full Level 2
• Motivated to work and ready for employment or an
Apprenticeship within 12 weeks of engaging in a Traineeship
Contents of the LHAA Traineeship
The Traineeship programme is delivered over 12 weeks where you are required to attend one of our Academies.
The five key elements of our Traineeship programmes include:
• Workskills Award at Level 1 which includes employability
training: a chance to develop exactly the skills and qualities
employers are looking for :CV writing, interview techniques,
job-search, time management, professional appearance and
• English and maths Level 1 Functional Skills
• Level 1 Award in Customer Service
• NVQ Level 1 in Hairdressing units
• 100 hours work placement within the hairdressing industry
What are the progression routes from a Traineeship?
All students that complete the Traineeship will receive certificates for the qualifications they achieve. They will also have an exit interview with their employer and it is expected that a number of the Trainees will be offered employment with the employer as part of the Apprenticeship programme.
Students that are successful on the Traineeship programme will be guaranteed a place on our Apprenticeship programme in either hairdressing or barbering.
Students who decide that hairdressing is not the career for them will still have gained valuable qualifications, work experience and transferable skills to enable them to find alternative employment or to continue their education at the next level.
